Egypt Tour 12 Days Cairo → Marsa Alam: Culture & Wild Red Sea
Our Egypt tour 12 days from Cairo → Marsa Alam is the complete egypt tour for anyone keen to skip the Hurghada crowds and see the Red Sea at its wildest. Across 12 days you get 3 nights in Cairo (the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum), a 4-night nile marsa alam cruise calling at Karnak, Edfou, Kom Ombo and Philae, with abou simbel included on the Signature package and above, and finally 4 nights at a 4-5★ resort right beside the marsa alam reefs, among the last untouched coral sanctuaries of the marsa alam red sea
Every egypt travel marsa alam we sell comes with internal flights (Cairo-Luxor and Marsa Alam-Cairo), private transfers, an English speaking Egypt guide holding an Egyptology degree for the cultural days, and an all-inclusive 4-5★ resort at Marsa Alam opening straight onto the reefs of Abu Dabab, Marsa Mubarak or Sha'ab Samadai. Where Hurghada packs everything into 20 km of heavily built seafront, Marsa Alam has kept its wild feel: 650 km of coast shared by barely ten well-spaced resorts, with protected dugongs and green turtles grazing a few metres from the beach.
This cairo marsa alam itinerary is built around unwinding: once you have done the cairo pyramids, the karnak temple luxor, the valley of the kings and Abu Simbel, 4 days on the southern Red Sea let you recover inside a protected ecosystem. Divers everywhere rate the diving marsa alam, thanks to the dugong marsa alam (threatened sea cows you can still watch at Abu Dabab straight from the beach), the green turtles and a pristine coral reef red sea that no Mediterranean cruise call could ever match.
Starting at £1,610, the Essential package covers 11 nights (a 4★ hotel in Cairo, a 5★ Nile boat, a 4★ all-inclusive resort at Marsa Alam), with full board or all-inclusive according to the leg, every transfer, the internal flights and a dedicated English-speaking guide. Signature (£1,920) upgrades Cairo to a 5★ hotel with pyramid views and adds Abu Simbel. Prestige (£2,380) brings a 5★ luxury resort at Marsa Alam, an optional PADI-certified diving programme (+£220) and an optional 4-night dahabiya.

Marsa Alam, the Untamed Red Sea: Dugongs, Turtles and Living Reefs

Marsa Alam is nothing like Hurghada. Sitting 230 km further down the coast, it stayed well clear of mass tourism for years, and its airport did not open until 2001. These days it draws divers and travellers after the untamed side of the marsa alam red sea
Why Marsa Alam rather than Hurghada
- 10 times fewer hotels per kilometre: Hurghada crams 200+ hotels into 20 km; Marsa Alam spreads fewer than 30 along 650 km, so nature surrounds you.
- Remarkable marine life: Abu Dabab shelters one of the last dugong (sea cow) colonies on earth that you can reach without a boat. Green and hawksbill turtles turn up every day while snorkelling.
- Deep, untouched reefs: Elphinstone Reef, Daedalus and Dolphin House count among the finest dive sites anywhere, placed by PADI in its world top 10.
What you will do there
What you do depends on the package: lazy days on a private beach, snorkelling every day just 50m out (Abu Dabab, Marsa Mubarak), a half-day boat trip to Dolphin House to see the dolphins, a PADI dive or a first-timer's dive (+£140-£220 by package), dugong watching at Abu Dabab, or kitesurfing at El Quseir, 45 min away by car. Families will like the shallow lagoon at Marsa Mubarak, perfect for small children. Our chosen resorts, Kahramana Beach Resort, The Three Corners Equinox and Zahabia Village, each open directly onto a private beach and a house reef.

Your Questions on the 12-Day Cairo → Marsa Alam Tour

Why Marsa Alam rather than Hurghada?
Hotel density at Marsa Alam is 10x lower: 650 km of wild coast with fewer than 30 resorts, against Hurghada's 20 km of dense development. The marsa alam reefs (Elphinstone, Abu Dabab) rank among the best preserved anywhere. If a lively town beach appeals more, look at our Hurghada combination
Can you really see dugongs in Abu Dabab?
It is, and it is among a handful of places on the planet where you can snorkel with dugongs straight off the beach, since they feed on a seagrass meadow 50m out. Signature includes the outing. Green and hawksbill turtles are spotted daily as well.
Are domestic flights included?
Yes, all domestic flights are included in all packages: Cairo-Luxor and Marsa Alam-Cairo (with stopover), as well as each domestic segment necessary for the tour. We take care of all air logistics in Egypt. Your flight to Egypt remains your responsibility.
Is Abu Simbel in all the formulas?
Abou Simbel comes as standard from Signature upwards (£1,920). On Essential it is an add-on at +£150/pers. As one of Egypt's two great signature temples, it is well worth adding.
Can we replace the boat with a dahabiya?
On Prestige, yes: a 12-16 passenger dahabiya for the 4 nights in place of the large ship, at +£450/pers. For a 100% dahabiya trip see Cairo + Dahabiya 10d
Is Marsa Alam suitable for families with children?
Marsa Mubarak's shallow lagoon suits children of 6+, and partner resorts run kids' clubs. With under-6s, Hurghada's fuller facilities work better.
Can we do certified diving?
Certainly, through a PADI partner centre at the resort: a first dive from £70, guided dives from £40 each, Open Water certification at +£320 across 3 days. Sites include Elphinstone, Daedalus and Dolphin House, all in PADI's world top 10.
What is the best season?
For the cultural leg (Cairo/Nile), October to April; Marsa Alam works year-round, with the sea at 23-28°C. Our pick is November-March for the ideal balance. In July-August Cairo passes 40°C, so steer clear.
What is the difference with the Hurghada circuit?
The Hurghada combination (£1,530) comes in £80 cheaper, but with a busy town beach. At £1,610, this Marsa Alam tour suits travellers after unspoilt nature and marine life such as dugongs and turtles.
How to book and cancellation policy?
Our cancellation terms depend on how far ahead you cancel and are set out in full with every quote. We recommend cancellation insurance, available from £50/pers.
