A honeymoon in Egypt built around a 5-star Nile cruise from Luxor to Aswan in a suite with a private balcony, a private dinner at Karnak, private transfers in an air-conditioned Mercedes, and 4 to 5 nights at a beachfront 5-star hotel on the Red Sea.
A honeymoon in Egypt combines three things you rarely find in one trip: the slow romance of a Nile cruise in a suite with a private balcony, the emotion of temples that have stood for thousands of years at Karnak, Philae and Abu Simbel, then several days of rest on the beaches of the Red Sea at a beachfront 5-star hotel. Our team has been arranging trips out of Cairo since 2020, so every honeymoon we plan is built and confirmed by people who live where you are traveling, with no European or American middleman marking up the same hotels and ships.
If you are weighing Egypt for honeymoon travel against a beach-only destination, the reason couples choose it is the contrast: an adventure trip and a genuine relaxing honeymoon in the same eleven days, not a choice between the two. A 5-star Luxor to Aswan cruise paired with the Red Sea remains the itinerary we book most often for honeymoon requests, and it is the one detailed below.
Here is the itinerary we build most often for a honeymoon, arranged to alternate cultural highlights and romantic downtime:
Days 1 and 2, Cairo (1 night). Arrival in Cairo on your own flight. VIP airport welcome, then a private Mercedes transfer to the Marriott Mena House (a handful of Palace and Garden rooms and all 13 suites face the Great Pyramid directly; ask us to request one at booking). The next morning: the Pyramids of Giza, the Sphinx, lunch with a view of the pyramids, then the Grand Egyptian Museum. Flight from Cairo to Luxor in the afternoon.
Days 3 to 6, Nile cruise Luxor to Aswan (4 nights). Boarding a 5-star ship such as the Sonesta Star Goddess (a 33-suite all-suite ship with a sun deck pool) or the Mövenpick MS Royal Lily (56 cabins plus 4 Royal Suites). Suite with a private balcony, Nile view. Guided visits with an English-speaking guide: Karnak and Luxor Temple (day 3), Valley of the Kings and Hatshepsut's temple (day 4), Edfu and Kom Ombo (day 5), Philae and the High Dam at Aswan (day 6). A private dinner on the upper deck at Karnak can be arranged on request.
Day 7, Abu Simbel (option). An early flight from Aswan to Abu Simbel returns in time for lunch on the boat, or you can swap it for a hot-air balloon flight over the Valley of the Kings.
Days 8 to 11, Red Sea (4 nights). Flight from Aswan or Luxor to Hurghada. Transfer to The Oberoi Beach Resort on the Sahl Hasheesh coast, the Steigenberger Aldau Beach, or the Four Seasons Resort Sharm el-Sheikh if you prefer Sinai. Private beach time, optional diving, a couples spa treatment, a romantic dinner facing the sea.
Day 11, departure. Domestic flight back to Cairo, arranged by us, then your own flight home. You can add 1 to 2 nights as a stopover in Cairo.
This itinerary is flexible: we can replace the standard cruise with a private dahabiya (a small sailing boat with far fewer cabins, covered in the next section), or add a 2-day White Desert safari at Bahariya. For a tighter schedule, an 8-day version works by shortening the cruise to 3 nights.
Three concrete reasons, not marketing:
Most honeymoon itineraries use a standard 5-star cruise ship, and for good reason: fixed departure days, a spa, a sun deck pool, and a wide choice of suite categories. But for couples who want something quieter, we also operate our own private dahabiyas, traditional sailing boats with a deliberately small number of cabins and no engine noise.
The Iris has four cabin categories up to a Royal cabin with its own veranda, while the Akhenaton and Per Ba each keep two categories for a more intimate boat. Meals are served at a slower pace, mooring spots are chosen for their quiet rather than their capacity, and you share the deck with far fewer guests than on a large cruiser. It is the option we suggest most for couples who want the Luxor to Aswan route without the group-tour feel. See our full comparison of a dahabiya against a standard Nile cruise for cabin counts, pricing and sailing days.
Here are the extra touches couples ask us for most often (all can be arranged, just mention them when you request your WhatsApp quote):
Three properties we book most for the beach half of a honeymoon, all on the Red Sea coast:
The Oberoi Beach Resort, Sahl Hasheesh (Hurghada). Junior and one-bedroom suites, most with a sea view, set on a private beach with a jetty restaurant. This is the property we suggest first for a quiet, adults-oriented stay near Hurghada, not to be confused with Marsa Alam further south.
Steigenberger Aldau Beach (Hurghada). A large all-suite resort with two outdoor pools plus a lazy river, and a private beach that stretches nearly half a kilometer. Ask for the Honeymoon King Room when we send your quote.
Four Seasons Resort Sharm el-Sheikh. Several of its suites and villas come with a private plunge pool and direct beach or garden access, on what is generally considered the best stretch of coast in Sinai.
If diving is the priority rather than a resort stay, our Marsa Alam guide and our full Red Sea comparison cover the quieter reef towns south of Hurghada.
Egypt works for a honeymoon most of the year, but some months are noticeably more comfortable:
October and November (top). 79 to 86°F by day, 64 to 72°F at night, sea at 79°F. No rain, and the tail end of the mosquito season on the Nile. Widely considered the ideal window.
March and April (top). 75 to 86°F by day, 63 to 70°F at night, sea at 73 to 77°F. Note that Easter can push prices up, so book several months ahead.
December and January (good). 72 to 79°F by day, 54 to 61°F at night, sea at 72 to 73°F, a little cool for a morning swim. Good for couples sensitive to heat. Evenings on the boat deck are cooler, so bring a wrap.
February (good). 73 to 82°F by day, sea at 72°F, a solid compromise between winter mildness and reliable sun, with fewer tourists than March and April.
June to August (avoid). 100 to 109°F in Luxor and Aswan, temple visits become a real test, and air conditioning is sometimes stretched on older boats. The Red Sea itself stays pleasant (water at 82 to 86°F).
Three packages for different budgets and expectations. Prices are indicative because the final cost depends on your exact dates, hotel choice and options. Request your personalized quote by WhatsApp for the real rate on your dates.
11 days in a suite with a Nile balcony, a beachfront hotel in Hurghada, private Mercedes transfers, half board on the cruise plus all-inclusive on the Red Sea.
A 33-suite ship with a sun deck pool, a junior suite at The Oberoi Beach Resort (sea view, private beach), private dinner at Karnak included.
A private cabin on the Iris or Akhenaton dahabiya, a suite or villa with a private pool at the Four Seasons, a Valley of the Kings balloon flight plus a vow renewal on the beach.
A US, Canadian, UK or EU passport holder needs a visa for Egypt. The single-entry e-visa costs $30 as of 2026 through the official portal, e-visa.gov.eg, and is usually issued within a few days; a visa on arrival at the airport is also available in cash. Your passport needs at least 6 months of validity beyond your return date. See our full visa guide for US travelers for the step-by-step process.
For spending money, the Egyptian pound is the local currency, but most hotels, cruise ships and larger shops in Luxor and Cairo also accept US dollars and cards. Bring a mix of small bills for tips and market stalls, and pack light layers for the temples plus one warmer piece for the boat deck in the evening. Our packing list covers what to bring for both the Nile and the Red Sea legs of the trip.
