Honeymoon in Egypt: The Guide to the Unforgettable Honeymoon 2026

Jun 26 2026

Few places carry as much romance as Egypt for a couple beginning married life. Isis and Osiris, then Cleopatra: the country's great love stories are woven into its history. For 2026, Egypt has emerged as a leading honeymoon destination, with a polished, intimate kind of luxury that keeps the crowds at arm's length.

At Sem Elegant Voyage, we know that a honeymoon has to be perfect. No waking up at dawn to follow a crowded bus. We create bubbles of intimacy so that you can savor every moment together.

3 Unique “Honeymoon” Experiences in Egypt

1. The Private Cruise in Dahabiya: The Peak of Romanticism

Choose one experience above all others and make it this. A Dahabiya is a graceful sailing boat built to a traditional design. Where the big ships carry 100 cabins, our Dahabiyas, the Nebyt among them, take just a handful of couples.
The moment to remember: the crew lays a table for two on a sandbank in mid-river and serves dinner by candlelight beneath the stars, with nobody else for miles.

2. Awakening in front of the Pyramids

Picture drawing back the curtains in the morning to find the Great Pyramid of Khufu filling the window, a few hundred metres off. Legendary addresses such as the Marriott Mena House make that possible, and we build a night there into our itineraries. Our Smile of the Sphinx tour, reimagined for luxury travellers.

3. Luxury “Waterfront” at Sahl Hasheesh

When it comes to winding down, steer clear of central Hurghada. Head 20km south to the bay of Sahl Hasheesh, a pocket of quiet lined with striking adults-only hotels: swim-up suites with their own pool, spa treatments for two, and snorkelling side by side.

What Budget for a Honeymoon in 2026?

Egypt offers exceptional value for money for the Luxury segment.

  • Premium Budget (10 days): £1,150 - £1,540 / person (Internal flights, 5* standard hotels, 5* cruise).
  • Exceptional Budget (12 days): £1,920 - £2,690 / person (Private Dahabiya, Historic Hotels, Private Guides, VIP Transfers).

Frequently Asked Questions from Newlyweds

Magnificent sunset over the Nile

Q: Can we kiss in public?

A: Egypt remains conservative. Holding hands is acceptable, but save passionate outpourings for the privacy of your bedroom or the deck of your private boat.

Q: Is a marriage certificate required?

A: Only where one partner travels on an Egyptian passport. If you are both foreign nationals (British or otherwise European), hotels ask for no certificate at all, and booking under your pre-marriage surnames causes no problems.

When to go on a honeymoon in Egypt?

The ideal season for a honeymoon in Egypt is between October and April. Temperatures are mild (20-28 degrees), evenings are cool on the Nile, and the light is perfect for photos. In fact, the period from November to March is the one we most often recommend for couples, because sailing in Dahabiya is pure joy when it is not too hot.

That said, if you get married in the summer (June-August), Egypt remains an option. It is hot in Upper Egypt (40 degrees and more in Luxor), but prices drop considerably and the sites are almost deserted. So, a tour focused on Cairo and the Red Sea works very well in summer, and you'll feel like you have the country to yourself.

How to Organize Your Honeymoon Itinerary

Having looked after hundreds of British couples, we find a honeymoon works best at between 10 and 14 days. This is the shape we usually give it:

Phase 1: Cultural discovery (3-4 days). Start in Cairo for the pyramids and the Grand Egyptian Museum. Our combines Cairo and intimate cruise in Dahabiya is ideal for couples. Settle into a hotel with a pyramid view like the Marriott Mena House for magical awakenings. Plan an evening at the Son et Lumiere show, it's as romantic as can be.

Phase 2: Navigation on the Nile (4-5 days). This is the heart of the trip. In dahabiya, you sail to the rhythm of the wind during a romantic cruise in dahabeya on the Nile, with stops at temples that the big boats do not visit. In the evening, the crew can organize a candlelit dinner on a desert island. It's the type of experience that won't be forgotten.

Phase 3: Red Sea downtime (3-4 days). Finish at Sahl Hasheesh or El Gouna. Our Hurghada honeymoon with beach time balances the sightseeing with proper rest. Both resorts are quieter and more polished than the centre of Hurghada. Adults-only properties such as the Baron Palace and the Kempinski bring spas for two, private stretches of sand and faultless service. Expect to pay between £120 and £230 a night for an all-inclusive suite.

The Little Attentions That Make the Difference

As a specialized local agency, we know that it is the details that transform a good trip into an unforgettable memory. Here is what we regularly organize for our honeymoon couples:

  • Cabin decoration: rose petals and candle upon arrival on the boat. It's classic but it still works.
  • A quiet upgrade: wherever the hotel allows it, we secure a better room for you without adding to the bill.
  • Dinner for two on the river: a table laid on a sandbank somewhere between Edfu and Aswan, with the stars overhead. Reckon on around £40-£60 for the complete meal for two.
  • Pictures of you both: our guides know exactly where to stand for a portrait with the pyramids or a temple behind you; a few are keen photographers themselves.
  • Horse-drawn carriage ride in Aswan: along the corniche at sunset, it's a very simple but deeply romantic moment. Around 200-300 EGP (~5-) for 30 minutes.

Practical points to settle before departure

What to wear: Egypt is a Muslim country with conservative habits, though anywhere tourists gather is well used to Western visitors. Aboard the boat and around the hotel, wear whatever you like. For mosque visits, pack a lightweight scarf so you can cover your shoulders.

Tips: Tipping (baksheesh) is part of Egyptian culture. Allow around 5-£10 per day for your guide, 3- for your driver, and small denominations (10-20 EGP) for one-off services. As a local agency, we provide you with a detailed tipping guide upon arrival.

Money: the Egyptian Pound (EGP) is what you spend locally. Reckon on £15,590 worth around 50 EGP. Hotels and tourist shops take euros and dollars happily, but at the souk you will want Egyptian pounds in your pocket. Cash machines are easy to find in every major city.

Health: no compulsory vaccination. Drink only capped bottled water. 5-star hotels and cruise ships offer perfectly safe cuisine. Bring an antidiarrheal in case of digestive sensitivity, this is a standard precaution for any trip to North Africa.

Mistakes to Avoid for a Successful Honeymoon

After having organized dozens of honeymoons, here are the pitfalls that we see come up regularly:

1. Cramming the itinerary. This is a honeymoon, not a season of fieldwork. Keep the mornings clear for a long lie-in and an unhurried breakfast together, and cap the sightseeing at 4 to 5 hours a day.

2. Choose a large cruise ship. Liners with 100+ cabins are comfortable, but they totally lack privacy. A dahabiya of 6 to 10 cabins offers an incomparably more romantic experience.

3. Skipping the Red Sea. Plenty of couples pour everything into the monuments and leave no room to unwind. Those final 3-4 days by the sea are not “time wasted”; they are the part where you finally stop rushing and enjoy each other.

4. Not notifying the agency. If this is your honeymoon, tell us! We systematically add little free touches (decoration, welcome note, negotiated upgrade) when we know it's a honeymoon.
