Our English-speaking selection of the best 5★ Premium boats and private dahabiyas on the Nile: Sonesta Star Goddess, Oberoi Philae, Steigenberger Legacy, Mövenpick Royal Lily, Dahabeya Nuun & Nuut. Direct booking in Cairo.
Of the 280+ boats that sail on the Nile, barely thirty deserve the 5★ Premium designation. The term "5 star" on the Nile is inflated - many boats flaunt this label with tired cabins, average cuisine and indifferent service. The real selection involves strict criteria which are not seen on the tour operator sites: recent year of renovation (less than 5 years), human size (60-130 cabins max), quality of the chef and the kitchen brigade, English-speaking training of the reception staff, frequency of technical inspections.
Our SEV team in Cairo personally inspects each partner boat at least once a season - we board, dine in the restaurant, test the balcony cabins, check the condition of the carpets and the cleanliness of the SPAs. It is this field inspection that allows us to guarantee our 5★ Premium and not those of a marketing brochure.
This page presents our 2026 selection of the 5 best 5★ classic boats + 3 high-end private dahabiyas + 1 ultra-luxury yacht-cruiser. Plus an honest comparison between Premium boat (60-130 cabins) and private dahabiya (4-12 cabins).
Our #1 quality-price choice. Spacious balcony cabins (28m²), gourmet restaurant under the direction of a chef trained in France, swimming pool on deck, art deco lounge bar, exemplary English-speaking crew. Human capacity (33 cabins vs 130 on giant liners). Itinerary 4 nights Luxor-Aswan or 3 nights Aswan-Luxor. Average price 2026 in average season: £990-£1,300/person for 4 nights balcony cabin.
Reference of the Mövenpick chain on the Nile. Elegant cabins with contemporary decor, Swiss-themed restaurant, Mövenpick patisserie (the famous ice creams included). Very good PMR accessibility. English-speaking animation program. Ideal first English-speaking travelers. Average price: £1,070-£1,380/person
The preferred boat for travelers who want 5★ privacy without the dahabiya. Only 22 cabins, suites with private balcony and jacuzzi, Michelin-starred gourmet restaurant (chef Yannick Alléno consultant), 200m² Oberoi spa. Public couples / honeymoon / small group of friends. Price £1,760-£2,530/person for 4 nights.
The largest 5★ Premium in our selection. Classic architecture inspired by Victorian nile-steamers, 4 à la carte restaurants, elevated swimming pool with panoramic views, 600m² spa, fitness room. English-speaking entertainment every evening (galabieya party, Sufi dance, oriental evening). Ideal for families and groups. Price £1,070-£1,450/person
The boutique boat in Scandinavian-Egyptian style. Designer cabins with king-size bed, unique but excellent restaurant (Egyptian chef trained in Sweden), cocktail bar, adults-only atmosphere (16 years minimum). Public couples without children, designer travelers. Price £1,220-£1,610/person
The dahabiya is the ultra-intimate alternative to the classic 5★ boat: traditional sailboat with lateen sail, 4 to 12 cabins maximum, navigation with the wind, off-trail stopovers where the liners do not stop. This is the preferred format for honeymoons and small groups of friends privatizing the entire ship.
Our historic partner Dahabiya. 8 double cabins with marble bathroom, library lounge, restaurant terrace under precious wood roof, 2 lateen sails. Quasi-private service (1 crew member for 1.5 passengers). Itinerary 6 nights Esna-Aswan with stopovers El Kab, Gebel Silsila, Dakka. Price £2,150-£2,920/person for 6 nights - full private £13,850-£18,470/group.
Shorter format but also refined. 6 cabins, full board restaurant, Nubian crew singing in the evening at sunset. Luxor-Aswan itinerary in 5 nights. Price £1,760-£2,390/person
Premium combo: 3 nights in Cairo (Pyramids + Grand Egyptian Museum) + 6 nights on a private dahabiya. Price £2,420/pers. The preferred format of our honeymooners and our customers booking for their 60+ birthdays.

The high season on 5★ Premium boats is more concentrated than on standard boats: October-November, December (Christmas), February, March and April (Easter). Outside of these periods, Premium boats operate in reduced numbers and certain less popular itineraries are sometimes canceled.
For the best quality-price compromise on 5★ Premium: late September, early February (post-holidays) or mid-May. Prices drop by 20-25% and attendance at temples remains reasonable.
