Croisière Nil Octobre-Novembre 2026 La Meilleure Saison

Nile Cruise October-November 2026: The Best Season

Jun 26 2026

Perfect weather, fair prices, crowd-free temples. This is why wise French people choose this period.

The essentials in 60 seconds

For a Nile cruise, nothing beats October and November on value. Settled weather at 25-30°C, water that has run clear again, sites without the crowds and fares 20-30% below February-March. Ramadan is not an issue, nor is punishing heat. Travellers who already know Egypt tend to pick this window. Reserve 10-12 weeks ahead (July-August) to secure the finest boats.

Why October-November is the Best Season

Egyptian landscape with desert and pyramids

I have organized 600+ cruises in ten years. September = heat monster (45°C). December-February = insane prices (35-50% more expensive). July-August = impossible (wind, dust, flood). October-November? It's the only month that I recommend without hesitation to every French person who asks me for advice. For an overview of all seasons and periods, see our our Nile cruise guide.

The 4 Fundamental Reasons

  • Simply perfect weather: October 28-30°C day, November 26-28°C. Neither too hot nor cold at night. You walk 8 hours without exhaustion.
  • Reasonable price: 20-30% cheaper than February. You save £310-£460 per person without losing quality.
  • No tourist crowds: The temples remain magnificent but without queues. You photograph without 50 other tourists.
  • A Nile that runs clear: With the summer flood behind it, the river settles into steady blue and the fish are plainly visible.

The sweet spot, in short. February gives you similar conditions at 1.5x the cost, while November beats February on weather and comes in at a third of the price.

Nile Water in October-November

Sunset on the Nile in Egypt

Through July and August the river is in flood, running red with silt carried down from the Ethiopian plateau. Come September it remains murky. October sees the flood settle, and by November the water is clear as glass.

Water Conditions by Month

  • July-August: Peak flood. Reddish-brown river, deepest draught, no fish to be seen.
  • September: The retreat starts. Still muddy, the level easing down slowly, clarity not yet certain.
  • October 1-15: Transition. Water gradually becomes clear. You will see fish, reeds, fishing boats.
  • October 16-31: Clear water. You see up to 4-5 meters deep. The temples reflect each other perfectly.
  • November: IDEAL. Crystal clear water, blue-turquoise. Low but stable level. The best photographic period.

If you're a photographer or nature lover, November is non-negotiable. Clear water means best shots of temples, local life, and sunrise/sunset.

Crowded Archaeological Sites

Go in February and the queue for the Valley of the Kings runs to 45 minutes, with 200 visitors packed into every burial chamber. In November you are inside within 10 minutes.

Typical Waiting Time per Site

  • Valley of the Kings: 40-50 min queue in February, 5-10 in October, 3-8 in November.
  • Karnak Temple: a full 90 min wait in February, about 20 in October, 10 in November.
  • Hatshepsut Temple: 60 min on the steps in February, 15 in October, 5 in November.
  • Luxor Museum: February 2 hours (crowded). October 45 min. November 20 min.
  • Karnak Temple's evening light: 200 people in February, roughly 60 in October and 30 in November.

This changes everything. In November, you spend 6 hours of actual sightseeing for 2 hours of waiting in line. In February, it's the opposite. The experience is multiplied.

Questions You Ask Yourself

October or November? Which one to choose?

October for heat (28-30°C day) and long light. November for freshness (26°C day) and crystal clear water. November has a slight overall advantage, but October is cheaper. Can't go wrong with either one.

Does All Saints’ Day create crowds?

November 1-3 yes. It's the French school vacation period (All Saints' Day). Some boats are filling slightly. But it's tiny compared to December-February. You maintain comfort and no queues.

No political problems in October-November?

No. October-November are stable. No religious events that would slow down the country. Zero tourist events. No arrival of Ramadan (Ramadan 2026 = February-March). Complete stability. For more information on safety in Egypt, see our guide security.

Is it genuinely necessary to book 3 months ahead?

It is. February needs 6 months' notice, but October-November sells through in 8-10 weeks. Reserve in August for an October sailing and the whole fleet is open to you. Leave it to September and decent boats remain. By late September you are cutting it fine, which is far from ideal.

Can we negotiate prices in October-November?

Rarely direct to the boat. Via a local agency (us) = possible 5-10% discount on groups (3+ people) or packages (flight + cruise included). Prices never drop in the middle season, but advantageous packages exist.

💡 Practical advice for October-November: This period is the most popular for Nile cruises, and the best boats are sold out 2 to 3 months in advance. If you are aiming for a 5-star boat or a dahabiya, book in July to be sure of having a cabin with a view. Higher category boats often only have 20 to 40 cabins, so things go quickly.

Another important point: temperatures in October remain warm (32-35°C during the day in Luxor), while November is noticeably milder (26-30°C). So, if the heat worries you, choose the second half of November. Evenings on deck become really pleasant at this time, with a light breeze and temperatures around 18-20°C. Still pack a light jacket for mornings on the Nile, especially if your cruise begins in Aswan where it is always a little cooler in the morning than in Luxor.
