A perfect trip to Egypt combines 7 days of Nile cruise with 4-5 days of beach time. You explore temples and culture, then you unwind in Hurghada. Total duration: 11-14 days. Price: 2200-£3,460 per person depending on the boat and the season. Transfers included.
Everybody asks the same thing: “Is the cruise enough, or should I tack on the coast?” » Truthfully, it hinges on how much leave you have and how you cope with relentless heat.
Since 2020, we have seen clients who arrive in Hurghada after a cruise that exhausts the body but enriches the mind. A week on the beach afterwards allows you to really absorb the Egyptian experience. It’s psychological too: the brain goes from “culture mode” to “relaxation mode”.
Here is our guide to putting together the ideal combo.
Why Combine Culture and Beach?

Reason 1: Physical Balance
Cruising the Nile is an endurance event. Up at 5:30am for Karnak, on your feet from one temple to the next, dinner at 8pm, then asleep to the hum of the engine. After 7 days your body is begging for a break.
Hurghada: bobbing in the sea, a book, a lie-in. Nobody guiding you, no schedule to follow. Only you and the Red Sea.
Reason 2: Psychology of Travel
The Egyptian monuments are intense. You look at the same temple for 3000 years, you walk in the footsteps of the pharaohs, you think about death and eternity. It's deep. It wears out the mind.
Beach = pressure valve. At last your mind switches off.
Reason 3: Varied Photos for Instagram
We will admit it: an Egypt album made up only of temples looks samey. Throw in 50 shots of beaches, sunsets, dives and tropical fish = a trip that feels far more “complete”.
Reason 4: You Enjoy Every Place Better
If you only go on a cruise, you leave exhausted and what you remember most is fatigue. With a rest, you leave joyful and grateful.
What our clients tell us
Most of our customers who did the combination (Nile + Hurghada) said they would do it again, and many of those who took only a cruise said they should have added a beach.
The 4 Recommended Itineraries

Itinerary A: 7 days on the Nile then 3 in Hurghada (10 in all)
Day 1: Arrival in Cairo. Hotel night. Visit the Egyptian museum or Giza pyramids.
Day 2-8: 7-day cruise (Luxor-Aswan or Aswan-Louxor).
Day 9-10: Move on to Hurghada, 2 nights by the sea, diving if you fancy it.
Day 11: Return.
Verdict: Too short. The 2 days in Hurghada are too tasty. You arrive, you acclimatize, you leave.
Itinerary B: 7 days on the Nile then 5 in Hurghada (12 in all) ⭐ OUR PICK
Day 1: Arrival Cairo. Hotel night.
Day 2-8: 7 day cruise.
Day 9-13: 5 nights in Hurghada: 2 days pool or beach, 1 day diving (or snorkelling), 1 day rest.
Day 14: Return.
Verdict: This is our favorite. 5 days is enough time to really settle in. You can go on stress-free diving trips, have total “relaxation” days, and even explore the small town.
Itinerary C: 7 days on the Nile, 7 more in Hurghada (14 altogether)
Day 1: Arrival Cairo.
Day 2-8: 7 day cruise.
Day 9-15: 7 nights in Hurghada, enough for the lot: dives, desert trips, spa, lazing.
Day 16: Return.
Verdict: Ideal if you have 3 weeks off. You have time to really relax. The week is naturally divided: 3 days diving/desert activities, 3-4 days beach/rest/spa.
Itinerary D: 3-4 days on the Nile and 7 in Hurghada (10-11 days)
Day 1-2: Arrival, visit Cairo.
Day 3-6: 3-day mini-cruise (Luxor-Aswan only, not Cairo).
Day 7-13: Hurghada 7 nights.
Verdict: made for those who would rather be on the sand. A taste of the Nile without wearing yourself out, then the sea for the rest.

Transfers and Logistics

How to go from a cruise to Hurghada?
Three options:
Option 1: Domestic Flight (Recommended)
Departure from Luxor or Aswan to Hurghada. Duration: 1h30. Cost: £60-£90 per person. Advantage: quick, not tiring. Disadvantage: You must synchronize with the port.
Option 2: Car (5-6h)
Private driver from Luxor or Aswan to Hurghada. Cost: £120-£150 (entire car, 4 people). Advantage: flexible, you see the desert road. Disadvantage: long, driver must know the route.
Option 3: Bus (8h+)
A decent option (£20) but wearing. We suggest it only to backpackers with a taste for adventure.
What we choose: flight + car (the flight saves hours, the car frees your return).
Synchronize Timing
The cruise leaves you in Luxor (day 8, morning) or Aswan (day 8, evening). You have to take an afternoon flight to Hurghada. This means: quick packing, lunch at the airport, flight, arrival at resort around 6 p.m.
If it's too stressful, stay one night in Luxor or Aswan and take off the next day. It costs an extra hotel (£40-£80) but it’s worth the mental calm.

Activities in Hurghada

Diving and Snorkeling
Hurghada is famous for diving on the reefs of the Red Sea. The water is transparent (40m visibility in calm weather), multicolored corals, tropical fish everywhere.
Options: full-day diving trip (£40-£50), snorkeling from the beach (£10-£20), or PADI course (£230 for certification).
Desert and Jeep Safari
Unlike the Nile, Hurghada offers you the opportunity to see the desert. A day in 4x4: dunes, Bedouin villages, sunset. Price: £50-£80.
Giftun Island
Day trip by boat to an island with pristine beaches and diving. Typically £60-£90.
Spa and Relaxation
Egyptian massage, hammam and facials come as standard at all-inclusive resorts; elsewhere a 1 hour massage costs £20-£40.

Total Estimated Budget
For two people, itinerary 7+5 (our favorite):
- Hotel Cairo 1 night: £60-£120
- 7-day 4-star cruise: 2000-£2,150 (2 people)
- Luxor/Aswan-Hurghada flight: £120-£180 (2 people)
- 5-star resort 5 nights All-Inclusive: 1000-£1,150 (2 people)
- Activities (diving, desert, island): £310-£460
- Tips, extras: £150-£230
TOTAL: 3840-£4,300 for two people
Or 1920-£2,150 per person. It's a luxury budget, but it's a full 12 day trip to Egypt.
Best Season for the Combine
October-April: perfect. Temperatures 25-35°C, sea water 24-26°C. Ideal for cruising and diving.
May-September: intense heat (40°C+). Difficult cruise, but Hurghada remains accessible. Prices divided by 2.
Our vote: November or February-March. Perfect.
Personal Advice
Don't do the 7+3 combo. It's too short for Hurghada. If you only have 10 days, it's better to do 5+5 or just a leisurely cruise.
Let's talk about your exact timingFrequently Asked Questions
Could I start in Hurghada and cruise afterwards?
Yes, but less ideal. You arrive refreshed on the cruise, which is good. But psychologically, ending with relaxation is better than ending with intense.
What if I combine with other destinations (Cairo, Giza)?
It can be done over 14 days: 2 days Cairo, 7 cruise, 5 Hurghada. But too many changes of hotels. We do it if the customer insists.
Is All-Inclusive worth it in Hurghada?
100% yes after a demanding cruise. The reason is in the head: paying dish by dish keeps you on edge, whereas all-inclusive = complete peace of mind.
How many days of diving do you need?
If you are already diving: 2 days diving, 2-3 days rest. If you are a beginner: 1 day of lessons, then rest afterwards. Don't exhaust yourself.
Can children do the trick?
Yes, but short version: 5-6 days cruise, 3-4 days beach. Children find temples fascinating but exhausting. Hurghada = swimming pool paradise.
What is the best budget/pleasure compromise?
4-star cruise (£1,390) + 4-star Hurghada resort (£460, 5 nights) = £1,850 per person for 12 days. Excellent report.
