Quick answer
A perfect Egypt trip pairs 7 days of Nile cruising with 4-5 days on the beach. You explore temples and culture, then unwind in Hurghada. Total length: 11-14 days. Price: 2400-4900 USD per person depending on the boat and the season. Transfers included.
The question everyone asks: "Should I just do a cruise, or add the sea?" Honest answer: it depends on how much time you have and how well you handle nonstop heat.
Over 15 years, we have watched travelers reach Hurghada after a cruise that leaves the body tired but the mind enriched. A week on the beach afterward lets you truly absorb the Egyptian experience. It is psychological too: the brain shifts from "culture mode" to "relax mode."
Here is our guide to building the ideal combo.
Why Combine Culture and Beach?

Reason 1: Physical Balance
A Nile cruise is a marathon. You wake up at 5:30 a.m. for Karnak, you stretch your legs between temples, you have dinner at 8 p.m., you fall asleep rocked by the engine. After 7 days, your body says "please, take it easy."
Hurghada: you float in the water, you read, you sleep in. No guide. No itinerary. Just you and the Red Sea.
Reason 2: The Psychology of Travel
Egypt's monuments are intense. You stare at the same temple that has stood for 3,000 years, you walk in the footsteps of the pharaohs, you think about death and eternity. It is profound. It wears on the mind.
The beach = decompression. Your brain can finally let go.
Reason 3: Varied Photos for Instagram
Part of us will admit it: an Egypt album built only around temples is monochrome. Add 50 photos of beaches, sunsets, diving and tropical fish, and you get a trip that feels more "complete" visually.
Reason 4: You Enjoy Each Place More
If you do only a cruise, you leave exhausted and you mostly remember the fatigue. With some rest, you head home happy and grateful.
An interesting stat
Most of our clients who did the combo (Nile + Hurghada) said they would do it again. Many of those who did the cruise alone said they should have added the beach.
The 4 Recommended Itineraries

Itinerary A: 7 days Nile + 3 days Hurghada (10 days total)
Day 1: Arrival in Cairo. Overnight at the hotel. Visit the Egyptian Museum or the Giza pyramids.
Days 2-8: 7-day cruise (Luxor-Aswan or Aswan-Luxor).
Days 9-10: Transfer to Hurghada. 2 nights on the beach + optional diving.
Day 11: Return.
Verdict: Too short. The 2 days in Hurghada are barely a taste. You arrive, you acclimate, you leave.
Itinerary B: 7 days Nile + 5 days Hurghada (12 days total) ⭐ IDEAL
Day 1: Arrival in Cairo. Overnight at the hotel.
Days 2-8: 7-day cruise.
Days 9-13: Hurghada, 5 nights. 2 days beach/pool, 1 day diving (or snorkeling), 1 day rest.
Day 14: Return.
Verdict: This is our favorite. 5 days is enough to truly settle in. You can go on dive trips without stress, have full "downtime" days, and even explore the little town.
Itinerary C: 7 days Nile + 7 days Hurghada (14 days total)
Day 1: Arrival in Cairo.
Days 2-8: 7-day cruise.
Days 9-15: Hurghada, 7 nights. Time for everything: diving, desert excursions, spa, rest.
Day 16: Return.
Verdict: Ideal if you have three weeks off. You have time to really relax. The week splits naturally: 3 days of diving/desert activities, 3-4 days of beach/rest/spa.
Itinerary D: 3-4 days Nile + 7 days Hurghada (10-11 days)
Days 1-2: Arrival, visit Cairo.
Days 3-6: Mini cruise, 3 days (Luxor-Aswan only, not Cairo).
Days 7-13: Hurghada, 7 nights.
Verdict: For people who prefer the beach. You get a glimpse of the Nile without wearing yourself out, then you enjoy the water.

Transfers and Logistics

How Do You Get from the Cruise to Hurghada?
Three options:
Option 1: Domestic flight (Recommended)
Departure from Luxor or Aswan to Hurghada. Length: 1h30. Cost: 90-130 USD per person. Upside: fast, not tiring. Downside: you have to sync with the port.
Option 2: Car (5-6h)
Private driver from Luxor or Aswan to Hurghada. Cost: 160-220 USD (whole car, 4 people). Upside: flexible, you see the desert road. Downside: long, and the driver needs to know the route.
Option 3: Bus (8h+)
Cheap (20-30 USD) but tiring. We only recommend it for backpackers who love an adventure.
Our choice: flight + car (flight to save time, car for the flexibility of the returns).
Syncing the Timing
The cruise drops you in Luxor (day 8, morning) or Aswan (day 8, evening). You need to catch an afternoon flight to Hurghada. That means: quick packing, lunch at the airport, the flight, and reaching the resort around 6 p.m.
If that feels too stressful, stay one night in Luxor or Aswan and fly out the next day. It costs an extra hotel (50-100 USD) but it is worth the peace of mind.
The Best Resorts in Hurghada

5 Stars: Hurghada Grand Resort
Private beaches, three pools, a spa, diving straight from the resort. Perfect after a cruise: everything is all-inclusive, so you do not have to think about a thing. Price: 220-330 USD / night.
4 Stars: Sunrise Mahmya Resort
Excellent value. Fine sandy beach, excellent snorkeling straight from the shore. More intimate than a mega-resort. Price: 130-170 USD / night.
4 Stars: Sea World Hotel
A small boutique resort, specialized in diving. Ideal for divers who want daily outings. Price: 110-150 USD / night.
3 Stars: Hilton Hurghada
Central, a decent beach, very good service. If you want to explore Hurghada town, it is ideal. Price: 80-110 USD / night.
Our advice: after a cruise, an all-inclusive resort (5 stars) is really worth it. You do not have to think about restaurants, prices, anything. You just relax.
Things to Do in Hurghada

Diving and Snorkeling
Hurghada is famous for diving on the Red Sea reefs. The water is crystal clear (130 ft of visibility on a calm day), the corals are multicolored, and tropical fish are everywhere.
Options: a full-day dive trip (50-70 USD), snorkeling from the beach (10-20 USD), or a PADI course (320 USD for certification).
Desert and Jeep Safari
Unlike the Nile, Hurghada gives you the chance to see the desert. A day in a 4x4: dunes, Bedouin villages, sunset. Price: 60-100 USD.
Giftun Island
A full-day boat excursion to an island with pristine beaches and diving. Usually 80-120 USD.
Spa and Relaxation
Traditional Egyptian massage, hammam, facial. All-inclusive resorts include them; otherwise 30-50 USD for a 1-hour massage.

Estimated Total Budget
For two people, the 7+5 itinerary (our favorite):
- Cairo hotel, 1 night: 80-160 USD
- 7-day 4-star cruise: 2200-3000 USD (2 people)
- Luxor/Aswan-Hurghada flight: 180-260 USD (2 people)
- 5-star resort, 5 nights all-inclusive: 1100-1600 USD (2 people)
- Activities (diving, desert, island): 450-650 USD
- Tips, extras: 220-330 USD
TOTAL: 4230-6000 USD for two people
That works out to 2115-3000 USD per person. It is a luxury budget, but it is a 12-day trip through the whole of Egypt.
Best Season for the Combo
October-April: perfect. Temperatures 77-95°F, sea water 75-79°F. Ideal for cruising and diving.
May-September: intense heat (104°F+). Cruising is tough, but Hurghada stays doable. Prices cut in half.
Our vote: November or February-March. Perfect.
A Personal Tip
Do not do the 7+3 combo. It is too short for Hurghada. If you only have 10 days, you are better off doing 5+5 or just a relaxed cruise.
Let's talk about your exact timingFrequently Asked Questions
Can I do Hurghada first, then the Nile cruise?
Yes, but it is less ideal. You arrive at the cruise refreshed, which is nice. But psychologically, ending with relaxation beats ending with intensity.
What if I combine it with other destinations (Cairo, Giza)?
It is doable over 14 days: 2 days in Cairo, 7 on the cruise, 5 in Hurghada. But that is a lot of hotel changes. We do it if the client insists.
Is all-inclusive worth it in Hurghada?
100% yes if you are coming off an intensive cruise. It is psychological: a la carte prices stress you out. All-inclusive = total relaxation.
How many diving days do I need?
If you already dive: 2 dive days, 2-3 rest days. If you are a beginner: 1 course day, then rest afterward. Do not wear yourself out.
Can children do the combo?
Yes, but the short version: 5-6 days of cruising, 3-4 days on the beach. Kids find the temples fascinating but exhausting. Hurghada = pool paradise.
What is the best budget-to-enjoyment trade-off?
A 4-star cruise (1950 USD) + a 4-star resort in Hurghada (650 USD, 5 nights) = 2600 USD per person for 12 days. Excellent value.
