Why Christmas on the Nile?

Christmas in France: rain, snow, cold. Christmas on the Nile: sunshine, millennial history, unique New Year’s Eve. It’s a contrast that changes everything. For complete planning of your cruise, discover our Nile cruise guide 2026.
The 5 Magics of Christmas on the Nile
- Unique New Year’s Eve: Midnight on board. French champagne, gourmet menu, view of the illuminated Nile.
- Heat of the Nile: December in Egypt = 22-24°C. The children play by the pool while you open presents.
- Temples at night: Karnak illuminated for tourists. It’s a concert of light on hieroglyphics.
- No snow: No snow. Zero rain. Zero weather damage. Perfect.
- Happy isolation: 600 km from Cairo, you are far from aperitifs on Parisian terraces. It's a real mental break.
I have organized it 35 times. The customers all say: "It's the best Christmas of our lives." It's not an exaggeration. It's true.

Christmas vs New Year on a Cruise

Many customers ask: should we have New Year's Eve on December 24 or 31? Or both?
Christmas (December 24)
- Mandatory New Year's Eve for families with children (gifts on the morning of the 25th).
- Intimate, religious atmosphere for some.
- French menu: foie gras, champagne, log.
- Boat en route to Edfu. Calm. Less noise than the 31.
New Year (December 31)
- Festive New Year's Eve, less formal, more party.
- Dance music, champagne until 3am, crazy photos.
- “Party” atmosphere rather than “tradition”.
- Boat underway or static depending on the day. Often more groups.
My recommendation? Both. You are on an 8-day cruise. Two New Years Eves is possible. And it's magical.
Family or Couple? The Choice of Boat
Christmas attracts two types of travelers: families and couples.
Family (children): Movenpick Royal Lily. Heated swimming pool (water 26°C in December). Children’s entertainment. Sufficient cabins. Flexible restaurant (children eat at 6 p.m., adults at 8 p.m.). Mini club. Price: £1,770-£2,080 per adult, children 30% reduction.
Pairing: Oberoi Zahra or Sanctuary Zein. Privacy. Suites with bathtub. Private restaurants. Concierge service. December is romantic. Cold nights invite you to stay in the cabin. Price: £2,460-£2,770 for two.

Christmas Frequently Asked Questions
Do you really need to book 9 months in advance?
YES. Christmas is the only month where I say “book now or forget it”. The 5* boats fill up in May-June. The 4* boats fill up in July. In September, it is waiting list only.
Can we only do December 31?
Technically yes (embarkation December 28-29, disembarkation January 2). But it's less magical. Christmas and New Year together = 10/10. Just New Year = 7/10.
Can children eat at the adults' table on New Year's Eve?
Yes. The boats offer suitable children's menus (not oysters, not foie gras, but meat/pasta). Children normally fall asleep around 11:30 p.m. The parents stay until midnight with champagne.
Can we change the boarding date if a flight is delayed?
Yes. The boats offer flexibility during Christmas (an extra day in Cairo included). But confirm IMMEDIATELY in case of delay. Boats don't turn around. For more information on staying safe while traveling, see our security in Egypt.
