Why is Abu Simbel not included in the standard curriculum?
To maintain an accessible price and a comfortable pace. Abu Simbel requires a very early departure (3 a.m. from Aswan) and a significant supplement (+$170 / person). We offer it as an option for those who want it - it's an exceptional site that we recommend, but it deserves to be chosen wisely. The Luxury package automatically includes Abu Simbel.
Is this tour suitable for children?
Yes absolutely. The pace is appropriate, the visits fascinate the children (pyramids, mummies of the Grand Egyptian Museum, giant temples of Karnak), and they really like the cruise ship with swimming pool. We recommend the circuit from 6 years old and apply a 30% reduction for children aged 6 to 11 in a shared room with two adults. Baby equipment (bed, stroller) available on request at no extra charge.
What is the best month to do the Sphinx Smile?
The ideal season isOctober to April, with daytime temperatures between 22 and 30°C. January and February are the coolest (and most comfortable for daytime visits to Cairo) months. March-April and October-November offer the best weather/price compromise. From May to September, it is very hot (35 - 42°C); we then adjust the schedules by starting the visits very early in the morning, and the prices drop by 15 to 20%.
Is my flight to Egypt included?
No - the price displayed covers all land and domestic-flight arrangements in Egypt, from your arrival at Cairo International Airport until your departure. Your flight to Egypt is not included: you book it yourself from your departure city, giving you full flexibility on dates and loyalty programs. All your domestic flights within Egypt are arranged and included by SEV - the Cairo-Luxor and Aswan-Cairo flights are part of the package price.
What additional budget should I plan for on site?
Plan approximately $190-$290 / person for the entire stay, which cover: guide and driver tips (recommended: $0/day/person for the guide, $0/day/person for the driver, $20at the end of the cruise for the crew), drinks excluding meals included (soda, alcohol, coffee excluding breakfast), souvenirs and crafts, optional excursions (Abou Simbel, sound and light in Karnak, spa on the boat). Egyptian visa (30 USD on arrival or e-visa online) is not included.
Can I customize the itinerary (add Abu Simbel, Hurghada, Siwa)?
Yes, customization is free. The most requested extensions are: Abou Simbel (+$170 / day), Hurghada or Marsa Alam extension 3 to 5 nights (+$340-$730 depending on hotel), Siwa extension 3 nights (+$630), replacement of the 5★ cruise with a traditional dahabiya (+$340 / person for 4 nights). What is the difference between the Smile of the Sphinx and your Legend of Osiris tour?
The Smile of the Sphinx (8 days) is our “essential first visit” formula: Cairo + 4-night cruise Luxor - Aswan, with the major sites. The Legend of Osiris (9 days) is an initiatory formula which adds the temples of Dendera and Abydos (fundamental for fans of Egyptian mythology, rarely included in standard tours). If this is your first Egypt: Smile of the Sphinx. If you have already been or are passionate about mythology: Legend of Osiris. We also recommend the Glory of the Gods (10 days) if you want to include Abu Simbel in the main program.
Do I need a visa and how do I get it?
Yes, a tourist visa is required for French, Belgian, Swiss, Luxembourgish and Canadian citizens. Three options: (1) visa on arrival to Cairo Airport (30 USD cash, fast and registered), (2) Egyptian e-visa online at visa2egypt.gov.eg (30 USD, to be obtained 7 days before departure), (3) visa at the Egyptian embassy in Paris. Passport valid for at least 6 months after the mandatory return date. We will send you a reminder and exact instructions upon confirmation of the file.
