$485 for 4 nights on the Nile in a 5-star ship, all meals included. That is the starting price, and yes, it is real. We know because we have been booking these cruises every week for our English-speaking travelers since 2020. The problem? Most websites show ranges so wide they are useless. "From $430 to $3,200" - thanks, that really helps.
This guide does the opposite. We give you the real prices for a Nile cruise in 2026, broken down by type of boat, length, season and comfort level. With the hidden costs thrown in (because yes, there are some).

Not all boats are created equal. And the price gap between a standard 5-star and a private dahabiya is double, plain and simple. Here is what it actually looks like in 2026.
Classic 5-star ship (80 to 150 passengers)
This is the most booked option. Pool on the deck, buffet restaurant, air-conditioned cabins with a view of the Nile. You are looking at solid comfort, nothing extravagant. Budget $485 to $810 per person for 4 nights in a double cabin, all meals included. The price climbs to $650-975 between November and February.
Our guides consistently recommend ships with fewer than 100 passengers. Fewer people at the buffet, shorter lines at the temples (because the group disembarks faster), and honestly an unbeatable calm in the evening up on the deck.
Premium 5-star ship (40 to 80 passengers)
We move up a notch. Roomier cabins, table service instead of the buffet, a spa on board on some ships. Price range: $700 to $1,190 per person for 4 nights. The difference with the classic? Fewer passengers, better meals, and a guide often dedicated to the group.
Dahabiya (8 to 16 passengers)
Here we change category entirely. The dahabiya is a traditional wooden sailing boat. No engine (or almost none), absolute silence, stops in villages where the big ships never call. We have taken hundreds of travelers aboard the Nuun and Nuut dahabiyas, and the feedback is always the same: "we had no idea this existed."
The price? Starting at $960 per person for 4 nights. It easily climbs to $1,620 in high season with excursions. It is more expensive, yes. But it is a radically different trip. To explore this option in detail, see our page on the Nuun and Nuut dahabiyas.
| Type of boat | Capacity | Price 4 nights (per person) | Atmosphere |
|---|---|---|---|
| Classic 5-star | 80-150 passengers | $485 - $810 | Comfortable, lively |
| Premium 5-star | 40-80 passengers | $700 - $1,190 | Refined, quiet |
| Dahabiya | 8-16 passengers | $960 - $1,620 | Intimate, one of a kind |
3, 4, 5 or 7 nights: how it affects the budget

The length changes everything. Not just the total price, but also what you will see (and above all what you will miss by choosing too short).
3 nights (Aswan-Luxor or Luxor-Aswan): the express option. You see Karnak, the Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo and Philae. It is packed. Budget $380 to $595 on a 5-star. A little secret few people know: 3 nights on board actually means 4 full days of sightseeing, because boarding happens on the morning of day 1.
4 nights: the sweet spot. Same itinerary, but with one extra day that lets you tour Luxor without rushing. Our recommendation for a first trip. Price: $485 to $810.
7 nights: the grand classic. Often a round trip Luxor-Aswan-Luxor with extra stops (Dendera, sometimes Abydos). Budget $810 to $1,620 per person. The upside? The pace is completely different. You take your time. You come back to the temples at different times of day. It is another trip entirely.

What is included in the price (and what is not)

This is where most travelers get caught out. The advertised price looks competitive, then the extras pile up.
Usually included
- Air-conditioned double cabin with a Nile view
- All meals included (breakfast, lunch, dinner)
- Guided tours of the main temples with an English-speaking guide
- Entrance fees to the sites (Karnak, Valley of the Kings, Edfu, Kom Ombo, Philae)
- Boat-airport transfers (depending on the package)
Rarely included - and it adds up fast
Your flight to Egypt: arranged independently before joining us. Domestic flights inside Egypt - Cairo-Aswan, Aswan-Luxor, Cairo-Sharm el-Sheikh, Luxor-Cairo - are handled by SEV as part of your package, so you hop between Egypt's wonders on swift domestic flights we arrange for you.
Tips: a subject everyone avoids. In practice, plan on $6 to $8 per day for the guide and the same for the boat crew. Over 4 nights, that comes to about $45 to $65 per person. It is the norm, not a bonus.
Drinks: water is included with meals, but sodas, beers and cocktails are extra. Average budget: $3 to $9 per drink on board.
The Abu Simbel excursion: not included in 90% of cruises. Budget $95 by bus (departure 3 a.m. from Aswan, return around 1 p.m.) or $195 by plane. It is worth the detour - it is one of the most spectacular temples in the country. Our complete Abu Simbel guide covers both options.
The visa: $25 for the e-visa or $30 on arrival as of March 2026. US passport holders can apply online at visa2egypt.gov.eg before departure - it is the simplest route. See our Egypt visa guide for the full procedure.
Prices by season: when it costs less
The season changes the price of a Nile cruise by 25 to 40%. That is huge. And paradoxically, the cheapest months are not the worst ones for traveling.
| Period | Indicative rate (4 nights, 5-star) | Weather | Our take |
|---|---|---|---|
| Nov - Feb (high season) | $650 - $975 | 72-82°F, ideal | The best, but prices at their peak |
| Mar - Apr | $540 - $810 | 77-91°F, pleasant | Excellent value for money |
| May - Jun | $430 - $650 | 91-104°F, hot | For tight budgets |
| Jul - Aug | $410 - $595 | 100-113°F, very hot | Doable if you can handle the heat |
| Sep - Oct | $485 - $755 | 86-97°F, hot but OK | Our favorite |
September and October are our personal recommendation. Fewer crowds everywhere, prices 20 to 30% below high season, and temperatures that stay manageable with a hat and a water bottle. On our last trip in October 2025, our travelers had Karnak almost to themselves at 7 a.m. In January, that is impossible.
To know exactly when to visit Egypt in 2026, our seasonal guide breaks down the pros and cons month by month.
High-season cabins go fast
November to February 2026, the best ships sell out 2 to 3 months in advance. Book now to lock in your spot and your rate.
Check availabilityThe hidden costs nobody mentions
Let us be honest: there are expenses you will not see in any brochure. Here is what our experience has taught us since 2020.
Traveling solo? Most ships charge a "single" supplement of 40 to 70% of the base price. On a 5-star at $650, that can add $270 to $430. Contact us to find out which ships do not charge this supplement.
The Karnak sound and light show ($38-54), a felucca ride in Aswan ($16-27), a visit to the Nubian village ($22-38). On their own, they seem reasonable. Added up over 4 nights, that easily tacks on $85 to $130 per person.
The crew takes photos of you in front of the temples and sells them for $11 to $16 each on board. Charming, but it adds up. Keep your phone, it will do the job just fine.
The Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM) in Cairo deserves its own budget line: $60 per person as of December 2025, online booking required. If you combine a cruise with Cairo, factor it into your Egypt travel budget for 2026.
5 tips to pay less for your Nile cruise

- Book in September-October - Ships offer "shoulder season" rates 20-30% cheaper, and the weather stays perfectly pleasant.
- Go through a local agency - You cut out the middlemen. Our margin is lower because our operating costs are in Egyptian pounds, not dollars. The concrete result: 15 to 25% savings on the same boat, the same cabin, the same tours. Discover our Nile cruises.
- Choose a combo - A cruise + Cairo package is almost always cheaper than booking the two separately. Our Nile Cruise + Cairo combo bundles domestic flights, guided tours and transfers in one price - ask for your quote on WhatsApp.
- Avoid Christmas and New Year - The two most expensive weeks of the year. Prices sometimes double. Shifting one week earlier or later can save $320 to $540 per person.
- Negotiate the extras ahead of time - The Abu Simbel excursion, the sound and light show, the felucca: everything is negotiated better BEFORE departure than on board. Ask your agency to include the excursions in the overall package.
